'Carrying the Consequences' is a stereoscopic 180° VR drama following the story of a 16 year old boy who gets caught up in the knock-on effect of carrying a knife and the repercussions that lay ahead for him.

Production took place on a disused housing estate deep in the centre of Leeds. We were also given access to a working police custody suite where a large portion of the film is based with our main character, Callum, as he discovers the stark reality of being 'locked up' in a cell and interviewed for questioning by officers. We really wanted to highlight the sense of isolation you get being in a windowless and utilitarian building with only one purpose. It was quite the experience for us arriving each day in the pitch black of a cold December at 6am and leaving at 7pm in the same conditions with no real natural light.

We also had to get quite creative, using a disused IKEA and turning the old industrial kitchen into a Mortuary for one 30 second scene. It was well worth it given the final outcome, and the impact it had on the story.

I took on the role of director and editor. I also co-wrote the screenplay with the producer. There was a real sense of accomplishment seeing an initial vision and months of pre-production turn into a reality. We had a great crew of like-minded individuals and I found it a real bonding experience to work with such talented actors.

For this film, we partnered up with Canon to utilise their latest 8K R5 Cinema camera and brand new stereoscopic 180° VR lens. Sadly, due to chip shortages they were unable to provide us the camera for the project in time so with only two weeks until production was to commence, I found myself creating a bespoke stereoscopic 180° VR camera rig and post-workflow so we could still achieve the same outcome, utilising AI upscaling and some off-the-shelf parts. It ended up being a great success, with the only caveat being added time in post!
